Archery (datse) is Bhutan’s national sport, played not as a quiet competition, but as a central part of community life, village celebrations, and daily leisure. On the target lawn at Zhiwaling Heritage, guests can pick up traditional bamboo bows crafted by local makers and practice aiming at wooden target posts set across the grass. Alongside archery, our team shares the game of khuru—a traditional Bhutanese sport using heavy wooden darts fitted with flight feathers and sharp iron points. Guided by team members who have played these games in their home villages since childhood, sessions are informal, social, and rooted in the way these sports are naturally enjoyed across the valley.

Step onto our target lawn to learn the stance, draw, and release of traditional Bhutanese archery. Using handmade bamboo bows and arrows, guests receive practical guidance from local staff members, learning both proper technique and the customary celebratory songs performed when an arrow hits the mark.
