Zhiwaling began with a vision to create a hotel that felt unmistakably Bhutanese. Drawing on local knowledge and international expertise, it was brought to life by Bhutanese artisans whose work reflects the skill, care and traditions passed down through generations.

Ugyen Rinzin founded Yangphel Adventure Travel in 1988, building the company alongside his brother, Karma Lotey, and their late sister, Karma Choden. Years of sharing Bhutan with travellers planted the seed for his next vision: the country’s first Bhutanese luxury hotel.
