about

The Paro Valley is crossed by centuries-old footpaths that once served as trade routes, monastic pilgrimage steps, and village trails. Rather than treating the mountain landscape as a backdrop, Zhiwaling Heritage serves as a direct starting point for exploring these routes on foot. Hikes are guided by our own team members—local guides and staff who grew up walking these valley trails, gathering firewood, and visiting local monasteries. Whether you choose the climb up the granite cliffside to Taktsang (Tiger’s Nest) or prefer quiet paths through blue pine forests to lesser-known ridge temples, our guides adapt each walk to your pace and interests.

The "For Pete’s Sake" Hike to Tseto Goemba

Tseto Goemba is a quiet, lesser-visited temple resting on the ridge above the lodge. During the five years Zhiwaling Heritage was being built, our architect, Peter, made a habit of hiking up to the temple every single day. The trek became so tied to his daily routine that our team named the trail the "For Pete’s Sake" hike. Guided by local staff, this path takes guests through blue pine woods up to the monastery grounds for a quiet view across the valley.
